Illustration Friday "Time"
For this study, I was trying to do a few things: First, I was experimenting with gouache and pastels on illustration board instead of the usual watercolors on watercolor paper. I also wanted to suggest the presence of the Moon without directly showing it. And I wanted to create depth and a slightly ominous mood.
I think this is lovely. I do like the slight angle on the tower -it gives a better perspective and makes the picture more dynamic.
ReplyDeleteLove the perspective & light! ... never been to Chicago yet but I'm sure it's a lovely city too ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis topic is most kind for me. I believe it he managed to give back the sinister mood.
ReplyDeleteNice blog Dave
ReplyDeletePerhaps the new medium and the angle contribute to the unexpectedness of this, as if Tom Waits had written a fairytale.
ReplyDeleteCool illustration. This has a nice feeling to it.
ReplyDeleteAchieved your goals with this I reckon! Great illustration!
ReplyDeleteGreat perspective! This looks like the beginning of an excellent tale! Nice depth of color, too!
ReplyDeletewell, i think you succeeded! nice piece... trying out new techniques is always rewarding :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I think you did a great job. Really love the whole scene.
ReplyDeleteGreat experiment Dave. The skewed perspective, lighting (or lack of it) and the shutters being off kilter all give that creepy effect you were going for. Nice!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love watered-down gouache? Thick, I can't do a thing with it, but watered down it acts a lot like watercolors, only more opaque. Great work!
woah. so much perspective!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog...and I really would be delighted to link it to mine as a source of inspiration...hope you don't mind.
